Build a Profile That Wins Customers Before You Bid

Customers compare 3–5 pros side by side. The one that looks legitimate wins, even when the bid is higher. These four moves get you noticed.

Use a real headshot, not a logo

The single biggest profile mistake is using a logo, a truck photo, or a job-site picture as your profile image. Customers want to see the person who’s coming to their home. Pros with a clear, well-lit headshot win up to 10x more jobs than pros who don’t.

Quick rules: face fills 60% of the frame, neutral background, natural light, smile. Phone selfie works fine if it’s sharp. Avoid sunglasses, hats, and group photos.

10x more jobs · verified across the network

Write a bio that names what you fix — not who you are

“Family-owned since 2014, dedicated to quality” tells the customer nothing. Lead with the 3 problems you solve best, the cities you cover, and 1 sentence of what makes you different (specialty, response time, warranty, materials sourced direct, etc.).

Template: “Drywall, paint, and trim repair across [city]. 12 years of finish work. Same-day quotes, 1-week jobs done in 1 day, 30-day warranty on all repairs.”

Complete Stripe Identity verification on day one

Stripe Identity (gov-issued ID + selfie match + bank account verification) is the same standard Amazon and Shopify use. It takes 4 minutes. Once verified, you get the “Stripe ID Verified” badge on every bid you send — the single highest trust signal on the platform.

Optional next step: nationwide criminal background check — earns you a Gold Badge that shows up on every search result. Customers booking high-trust jobs (in-home electrical, child-area cleaning, key-holding) filter for the badge.

List 5–8 services, not 25

The instinct is to list every service to get every job. The opposite works better: fewer, more specific services rank you higher in customer search and tell the algorithm where to send you. Pick what you’re actually fast and good at.

If you do 12 different things, split them into 2–3 service profiles instead. The algorithm matches narrow profiles to narrow jobs.

Profile Completion Checklist: headshot · verified Stripe Identity · bio with 3 specialties · service list (5–8) · service area set · rates posted · 3+ portfolio photos · bank account linked for payouts.

Speed Wins Bids — The First Pro to Reply Usually Gets the Job

Customers post jobs because they need help now. They don’t wait. The pro who answers within the first 5 minutes wins the small-job market. Here’s how to make speed automatic.

Turn on instant notifications — both push and SMS

Default app notifications get muted on most contractor phones. Open the Job Pro app → Settings → Notifications and enable: Push (sound on), SMS, and Email. For SMS, double-check your phone’s carrier isn’t silently filtering AllBetter texts.

Pros who reply within 2–5 minutes win ~3x more bids than pros who reply within an hour. On smaller jobs (anything under $400), the first qualified bidder usually wins outright.

First-bidder win rate ≈ 60% on jobs < $400

Save 3 templated reply messages

You don’t need to write a custom message at 7am from the truck. Save 3 reply templates in your phone’s text shortcuts (or Notes app):

Use templates for

  • Initial bid response (intro + price + earliest start)
  • “Need more info” ask (2 specific questions)
  • Confirming the booking + arrival time

Don’t template

  • The actual price (always custom — jobs vary)
  • Anything mentioning the customer’s name
  • Project-specific scope (read the post first)

Match the customer’s urgency in your first reply

If they wrote “ASAP, water leaking,” your reply should open with “On my way today — can be there by 2pm.” If they wrote “flexible, in the next 2 weeks,” lead with the price and a specific date offer (Tuesday at 10am works better than “next week”).

Match the energy. Generic auto-replies get skipped.

C

Write Bids That Customers Actually Pick (Even at a Higher Price)

Customers pick based on perceived value, not the lowest number. A clear, itemized bid at $480 wins against a vague “$420 ish” quote almost every time.

Itemize: labor, materials, travel, permits — line by line

A bid that reads “Labor 4 hr @ $85 = $340 · Materials (drywall + mud + trim) = $95 · Disposal = $25 · Total: $460” wins against “$420 estimated, may go up”. Customers reward transparency. They mentally pre-approve the price because they understand it.

If the job is fixed-scope (a known repair), give a flat bid. Customers prefer flat-rate when they trust you. Use hourly only for diagnostic / exploratory work.

Attach 1–2 reference photos from a similar past job

If the customer is asking for a fence repair, attach a photo of a similar fence repair you did last month. It moves your bid from “just a quote” to “I’ve done this exact job and here’s the outcome.” The conversion lift is consistent across every category.

Use the in-app photo attach — it shows up directly in the customer’s bid comparison view.

Lock the scope in writing before the job starts

Write what’s included AND what’s explicitly NOT included. “Includes: drywall patch, paint match, trim re-install. Does not include: paint outside the patch area, color change, electrical re-route.”

This protects you from scope creep and protects the customer from surprise charges. AllBetter’s escrow flow ties payment to the agreed scope — if you change it mid-job, the customer signs off through the in-app change-order flow.

$
The Lead-Gen Tax (you don’t pay it here): On Angi or HomeAdvisor, every lead costs the contractor $15–$100 — a cost baked into your quote, raising the customer’s price by 15–25%. AllBetter charges $0 per lead. You can underbid lead-sale platforms by 15% and still keep more profit per job.
D

Show Up Right — The First 10 Minutes Decide the Review

The customer’s opinion of your work is locked in before you swing a hammer. Here’s the on-site routine that separates 5-star pros from 3-star ones.

Send “On my way” with a real ETA

30 minutes before arrival, send: “On my way — ETA 10:15am, white pickup truck, I’ll text when I’m parking.” The customer can stop watching the window. This single text improves your review score more than the work itself.

If you’re running 15+ minutes late, message before the original ETA. Late + silent = bad review. Late + heads-up = no problem.

Walk the scope on arrival, before unloading tools

Spend 3 minutes walking the customer through what you’re about to do. “Going to patch this section, sand it Friday once it’s dry, paint Saturday morning.” They feel in control. They also flag scope additions they want before you start — better to bid them now than mid-job.

Protect their floors, walls, and adjacent surfaces

Drop cloths. Painter’s tape. Shoe covers if it’s muddy out. The customer notices these the second you walk in. They’re also the difference between a 5-star review and “great work but he tracked dirt everywhere.”

E

Document the Job — Photos Pay You for Years

Before/after photos do double duty: they unlock customer approval (escrow release) AND become the portfolio that wins the next 50 jobs. Here’s the photo discipline that compounds.

Take 3 photos: before, mid-job, finished

Before the work starts, snap the before. Halfway through, snap the mid-progress (rough framing, primer coat, stripped wires — whatever shows the work’s in motion). At the end, snap the finished result from the same angle as the before.

Upload all 3 in the AllBetter app when you mark the job complete. Customers approve faster when they can see the change. Faster approval = faster escrow release = faster cash in your bank account.

Document any change orders in the app, not by text

If the customer asks for additional work mid-job (“hey, can you also patch this?”), use the Change Order button in the Job Pro app. It locks the new scope + new price into the same escrow. If you do it by text instead, you’re not protected by escrow on the addition.

Tag your photos with the service category

When uploading completed-job photos to your portfolio, tag them with the right category (drywall, paint, tile, etc.). The platform uses these tags to surface your past work to new customers searching for that specific service. 10 well-tagged photos beat 50 untagged ones.

F

Reviews That Compound — Build a Reputation Customers Filter By

Pros with 50+ reviews at 4.8 stars get 4–8x the daily bid invitations of pros with the same prices and 5 reviews. The compounding curve is real and steep. Here’s how to get on it fast.

Ask for the review at the moment of approval — in person

The exact phrasing that works: “If you’re happy with the work, the single biggest help you could give me is a quick review on AllBetter — takes 30 seconds, I can show you where to tap.”

Showing them where to tap (literally hand them their phone open to the review screen) bumps response rates from ~30% to ~80%. The app prompts them anyway, but the in-person ask is what gets the response.

Reply to every review — especially the bad ones

5-star reviews: short thanks (“Thanks Jamie — appreciate the trust”). Customers checking your profile see you respond, which signals you care.

3-star or lower: do not get defensive. Acknowledge the issue, explain what happened, offer to fix it if appropriate. Future customers read these way more carefully than the 5-stars — how you handle a bad review is the strongest trust signal on the platform.

If a job goes sideways, use the dispute flow — not a phone fight

If the customer says the work isn’t right and you disagree, open an in-app Dispute. AllBetter support reviews the photos, the messages, the agreed scope — and rules either way. Your money stays safe in escrow during the review.

The dispute system is the single biggest pro-protection feature on the platform. Use it instead of arguing — arguing burns reviews.

G

Get Paid Fast — The Escrow Flow, Step by Step

Escrow is the AllBetter difference. The customer pays into a locked account when they accept your bid. You earn it the second they approve the finished work. Here’s how to make sure that happens fast every time.

The 5-step escrow flow

1. Customer accepts your bid → their card is charged, funds held by AllBetter.
2. You complete the work → upload before/after photos in-app.
3. Customer reviews & approves → usually within 24 hours of seeing the photos.
4. Funds release to your AllBetter wallet → typically within hours of approval.
5. Auto-payout to your bank → standard 1–2 business days via Stripe.

Total: most pros see the money in their bank account within 2–3 business days of the customer approving the job.

Speed up approval: send a completion message + photos within 1 hour of finishing

The customer’s most likely to approve while the job is fresh in their head. Mark the job complete, upload your before/after photos, and send a short completion note in the app: “All done — cleaned up the area, confirmed everything works as expected. Let me know if anything looks off and tap Approve when you’re happy.”

Pros who do this typically see approval in <6 hours. Pros who don’t can wait 3–5 days for the customer to remember.

Link your bank account on day one (not on payout day)

Bank account verification (Plaid + Stripe) takes ~3 minutes but won’t complete until the next business day. If you wait until you have a payout pending, you delay your money by 1–2 days. Do it the day you sign up.

Grow Your Crew — From Solo Pro to Multi-Truck Operation

Once you’re booked solid, the next play is leverage. AllBetter’s crew management lets you add team members, assign jobs, and scale without losing the customer-facing brand you built.

Add crew members under your master account

Settings → Crew → Add Member. Each crew member gets their own login but ties to your business profile. You can assign them specific service types (Sam handles plumbing, Maria handles drywall) and set their per-hour cost so the dispatch math works.

Use the dispatch view to route, not micro-manage

The Dispatch view shows you all open jobs + crew availability + drive distance from each crew member’s last job. Auto-suggests assignments. Route what makes sense, override what doesn’t.

The win: 4 crew members can run 3–4 jobs each per day if routing is tight — that’s 12–16 jobs/day vs the 2–3/day a solo operator runs.

Set up recurring clients (weekly cleans, monthly maintenance)

For recurring service types (residential cleaning, lawn care, pool service), enable Recurring Bookings on the customer’s job. The same customer auto-rebooks at their chosen cadence — you skip the bidding step entirely. Recurring revenue compounds; chasing one-shot jobs doesn’t.

+
Pro Tip: Once you cross 10 active recurring clients, you’re effectively running a real business — predictable revenue, route density, less time hunting for new bids. That’s the inflection point most solo pros never reach because they never stop chasing one-shot jobs.
Ready to ditch your $150/mo CRM? Once your crew scales past 2–3 trucks, the dispatch math gets harder than the Job Pro app is built for. AllBetter Field FSM gives you advanced dispatching, custom invoicing, route optimization, and recurring billing for a flat $29/month — vs Jobber ($149/mo), Housecall Pro ($169/mo), or ServiceTitan ($300+/mo). Same login, same reviews, same payouts as your Job Pro account.

Frequently Asked — By Pros, For Pros

Real questions from contractors onboarding to AllBetter Job Pro. If yours isn’t here, ping support in-app and we’ll add it.

$0 to sign up. $0 monthly subscription. $0 per lead, even on bids you don’t win. The only cost is standard Stripe processing (~2.9% + 30¢) on the customer’s payment when the job is approved — same as accepting a credit card on any other platform.
Funds move from escrow to your AllBetter wallet within hours of customer approval. From there, the standard Stripe payout to your bank account is 1–2 business days. Total: most pros see money in their bank account 2–3 business days after the job is approved.
Open a Dispute in the app. AllBetter support reviews the agreed scope, your photos, the message thread, and the customer’s objection. Your funds stay protected in escrow during the review. If your work matches the agreed scope, you get paid.
License requirements vary by state and trade (electrical, plumbing, and HVAC usually require state licensure; handyman and cleaning often don’t). General liability insurance is strongly recommended for any in-home work. Both license and insurance docs can be uploaded to your profile — verified pros earn additional trust badges that increase win rate.
Stripe Identity is the same verification system Amazon, Shopify, and DoorDash use. Takes ~4 minutes: government-issued photo ID, selfie match, SSN (last 4), and bank account verification. Once verified, you get a permanent “Stripe ID Verified” badge on every bid. Required to send bids and receive payouts.
Yes. Settings → Crew → Add Member. Each crew member gets their own login under your business profile. You can assign jobs, set per-hour cost rates, and use the dispatch view to route work across the team. Customer-facing reviews and ratings stay tied to your business profile.
Settings → Service Area → adjust the radius (5/10/25/50 miles) and add adjacent ZIP codes. Wider radius = more job invitations, but watch your drive-time math — profit per job drops fast when one-way drive exceeds 30 minutes on a $250 job.
Most common reasons: (1) profile incomplete — missing headshot, bio, or rates, (2) Stripe Identity not yet verified, (3) service area too narrow, (4) no portfolio photos uploaded, (5) notifications disabled (you’re getting invites but missing them). Check the Profile Score in the app — it tells you exactly what’s missing.
No. Unlike lead-sale platforms, AllBetter does not sell pro or customer contact data. Your information is used only to match you with relevant jobs and to process payouts. Full privacy policy at allbetterapp.com/privacy.
Yes. App → Profile → Preview as Customer shows your profile exactly as a customer sees it in the bid comparison view. Use it to spot gaps — missing photos, weak bio, no rate posted — before they cost you a job.
